Unbothered

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

Strange enough these are all pieces I have worked into my work-wear and this is something I wore on a weekend. I have gained some weight in the hip region so I haven't been thrilled about wearing denim, these pants are from Joe Fresh which have been a favorite to go place for me for workwear. They are called the 'Audrey', they have the right amount of spandex and they are cut nice and skinny; just waiting for them to come back in season (hint hint Joe Fresh).

Lately I've been spending money on clothing, either on new clothing or alterations at the tailor. I am obsessed with the tailor right now, I can't believe I have gone this far in life without understanding the importance of something being sculpted to my body. I am also opting for spending more for better materials. With having more luxurious pieces I learned the effect of having things dry cleaned and how it reserves the garment and also with my non luxurious pieces I've learned how to handle them with care to extend their life span.

I have been gravitating towards a lot of black, deep purples, dark florals, neutrals like camel, eggshell and mauve, although I am still on the prowl for hunter green and brown garments.  Since the season changed brighter hues are on sale and so I shop ahead and I've purchased pieces in baby pink and fuchsia. I think pops of color during the fall and winter are refreshing and buying things on sale for next spring and summer is wallet friendly.

There's this thing about New Yorker's and black and I have never really participated in that, although I have grown to appreciate a LBD and all of it's versatilities. I also read somewhere that when you find something that fits well, you should buy it in multiple colors. So to me, that LBD can easily be a LRD, or a LWD. I think the fit of a dress is more important than what color it is.

Usually I tend to feel some sort guilt purchasing clothing but it is mainly work clothes so it qualifies as a necessity, give or take a new pair of Koral jeans that have changed my life...

Keep The Receipt

There’s this funny idea that all NYC bloggers are living the sex and the city life and I am sure there are a few…

( GAP JACKET, AA CROP TOP, MOSSIMO PENCIL SKIRT, AIR MAX 90)

I am not living the Sex and The City life; I am actually living in the Bronx and aside from my hour commute to work in midtown and to my sons’ school in Soho, I am quite alright with this borough. I was born here, Thanksgiving 1988 my mom gave birth to me in our apartment on Courtland Avenue. I have only resided in the Bronx so this is will always simply be home to me. I think the Bronx gets a bad rap because it is the only borough that has not jumped on the gentrification train... I am not going to discuss gentrification but I will say I agree with a lot of what Spike Lee has to say.

There's something refreshing and nostalgic to know that all these changes are taking place around New York but the Bronx is still the Bronx: still blaring Big Pun and Mary J Blige hits at summer block parties, still chaotic on the 4 or the D train the day of a Yankee game, still making authentic Italian food in the original Little Italy.

Sometimes I long for healthy food alternatives better shopping, maybe a Wholefoods or Trader Joes, but hey what are you going to do? I mean there’s a Starbucks 800 feet from my house, that may seem little but trust me it is big.

(Mossimo hat, The Habitat Shop eaarings AA sweater, Seven jeans, Zara mens coat)

Just test driving this military inspired hat I bought from Target about a year ago, and of course I'm just getting around to finally wearing it. A bad hair day will do that to ya! Also dipping in my boyfriends closet again - stole his coat this time :/ I can't help but love how feather light the actual coat is and the fact that it is ridiculously warm; I mean it makes me hot!! Hence the open jacket…you thought I was trying to make a fashion statement didn't you?

I love menswear, most of my pieces are unisex, which is why the bf and I keep dipping into each others closets. Okay I'm talking about him when I should be swooning over Nars Jungle Red matte lipstick. I've been collecting different variations and brands of red lipsticks. Jungle Red gives me a red that is bright, matte and attracts a ton of attention. I can't say it's a favorite because I love my little collection, which include shades by MAC and Rimmel London. I plan on sharing all those with actual swatches! And by swatches I mean I'm going to actually put them on my lips and not on my arms :)

The Joy

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

(Mossimo shirt, American Apparel shorts, Steve Madden 'Gretta')

I could not resist myself. I was this close (pinches fingers) to purchasing these shoes in black. Every once in a while we have to leave our comfort zone. Versatility is key.

Just me & my bag

Thursday, August 18, 2011

(Mossimo Overalls, Nine West Pumps, AA Lawn tank, Halston Heritage bag)

Everyone needs a bag to jump head first into fall with no?  I will literally rotate three purses and be content. Mulberry's collaboration with Target set off a chain reaction of sorts, because up until then I was not a bag type. I guess the problem was finding one that spoke to me and convincing myself that I needed it. Seeing this Halston was love at first sight. I walked away from it then decided that if it was still at the store (a day later ha) that it was meant to be.

Round the bend

(H&M Boys Cargo Jacket, Thrfted Levis, Michael Kors Wedges, Hat from Target)

There's nothing like thrifted Levi's and Michael Kors wedges. What I like most about these boots is that they're so comfortable and warm inside! I wore them on and off throughout the winter and even though its spring its still a bit breezy in New York. It was just about this time last year when I purchased this jacket for fifteen bucks in the boys department at H&M. I had wanted an army green cargo jacket and there was a sale in the childrens section (hahaha).

I really opt for masculine cuts and my preference is usually oversized. You can dress up just about anything with accessories, that being jewelry, belts, scrafts, headbands etc. I have so much in store I don't know where to begin, summer is looking so bright :)

In a corner

(AA top & bottom, Mossimo boots, Asos Earrings)
In the morning, after my alarm goes off, I lay in bed imagining what I’m going to wear. Thinking to

myself that I’m saving time by doing this (when in fact, I'm just being lazy)…Calculating exactly where

I last seen those trousers, how long it’s going to take to iron my shirt, which belt is going to match

better with my boots, where the hell are those boots? etc, am I the only one who does this?
